THE STORY OF BLIND MIKE'S POTTERY
I graduated High School in 1970 with the ability to draw and paint. I sold drawings and paintings till around 1985.
As my eyesight got worse, I lost the ability to continue with my art. I spent the next 30 years dealing with life and the loss of my creativity.
I went back to School at Harrisburg Area Community College in 2009, and after a couple of semesters, I had to take an art class. (you know, well-rounded education, lol.) I was skeptical about this, but they told me to take Ceramics 101.
Well, I have to say I was beside myself with this. After all, I had ceramics in tenth grade, and I could not even make a good ash tray. I went to class, and had a great instructor. He put a lump of clay in my hands and explained how to make a “pinch pot”.
Well, to my amazement, it turned into something!
I was so surprised that I said, “Give me another one.” That turned into something also, and it has not stopped!
Boy, oh, boy, all I can say is thank God, He gave me my art back.
Now I have a new love making pottery. I make functional and sculptural pieces for your enjoyment.
I no longer have the ability to even see light, but I spent most of my early years outdoors chasing frogs, snakes, bugs, and all the rest of the stuff young boys get into. This adds a whimsical side to some of my creations.
I love meeting new people and sharing my art and story. I am looking forward to sharing with you.
Check it out, and see what you can enjoy today!
